Time for my second episode, 5th in the season. Such a cool case fic by stardustdean, plus some satisfaction for Castiel fans... Click on the banner to read the Episode.
My art is spoilery for the story so it's under a cut.

Process! Warning: Contains Much rambling.
The final piece is actually three separate watercolours, and there's a fourth panel I didn't finish or include in the end, because I thought it would detract from the flow of the visual story.
So.
I used a combination of styles for the sea - there was a print by Eric Droege that I really liked, but also I was thinking about Japanese prints, where the sea is drawn as a solid thing.
The Adaro monster is described as being humanoid but with a swordfish-like spike sticking out of his head. I used a reference pic of a swordfish skeleton and decided to also give him the swordfish fin on his head, as well as the spike. My first sketch for two of the panels was this one below, I then toyed with making the Adaro less humanoid and more swordfishy, but in the end reverted back to something closer to the first idea.

I ditched the Dean above - he's got the knife in his left hand, for starters! LOL
Next is where I was starting to think about a comic style page - making notes about the sequence of events in the scene, jotting down possible panel ideas. All among a bunch of other doodles and messing about.

Trying out the Dean scene from a different angle and before he notices why his shoulder is hurting so much.

This is the panel I left out - Dean realising the Adaro has marked him.

What else can I tell you? Oh yes, for anyone interested in materials:
I used A Gallo Notturno for the sky because it's such a cool granulating colour. All the other colours were from Poems about You on Etsy. All three panels are in my Etchr 230gsm sketchbook.
If you are reading all this before reading the episode, hie thee hence with all haste, and enjoy! EPISODE HERE.
